ABSTRACT

The chapter presents trends in the inflow of Ukrainian refugees to Poland, Czechia, Hungary, and Slovakia. The chapter explores the dynamics of the migration wave and its demographic structure. It refers to places of migrants’ settlement in the Visegrad Group countries, considering geographic choices (regions where more refugees settle) and preferences for bigger cities. Although estimations about the refugees’ profile are very difficult, the chapter presents the available data concerning gender, age, and educational background, as well as attitudes of Ukrainian refugees, especially concerning return to Ukraine or staying in Visegrad countries and undertaking employment. The chapter is based on official data by the statistics institutions in V4 countries, reports and estimations by international organisations and institutions, as well as on prior research. The chapter concludes by describing similarities and differences in patterns of Ukrainian war migration to the analysed countries.
