ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we employ the case study method to obtain practical evidence of the European Union (EU)'s performance in the area of non-proliferation focusing on a specific crisis, namely the Iranian nuclear programme and the negotiation of a consensual solution to it. The choice of this case is based on the fact that it is one of nuclear non-proliferation instances in which the EU has invested a significant amount of time and resources, and where the results of the EU's activity are difficult to identify as clear successes or failures. Ultimately, this case will allow us to determine the efficacy of the EU in disseminating its norms in the field of nuclear non-proliferation, and whether the EU's non-proliferation norms have been accepted or contested by third-party actors.
