ABSTRACT

As in the previous chapter, in this too, we employ the case study method to obtain practical evidence of the European Union (EU)'s performance with regard to a specific proliferation crisis, that is, the Indian nuclear programme and the development and deepening of bilateral relations between India and the EU in the field of nuclear non-proliferation. As with the case of Iran, the choice of this case is based on the fact that it is one of nuclear non-proliferation agendas in which the EU has invested a considerable amount of time and resources, and where the results of the EU's activity are difficult to identify as clear successes or failures. Again, this case will enable us to observe the performance of the EU as an actor in this field, especially to what extent the EU's normative approach is contested or not by third-party actors.
