ABSTRACT
This chapter will discuss the EU's initiatives aimed at supporting non-proliferation efforts by providing technical and financial assistance to international organisations and other states, which are another clear example of the Union's normative power approach in this policy area. These activities are not coercive, but the EU employs its technical and financial resources to support other international organisations with rather limited resources and to assist less developed states in complying with their international commitments and best practices in nuclear non-proliferation and peaceful uses of nuclear energy. Such activity is not merely technical; it implicitly serves the broader goal of reinforcing a rules-based, multilateral approach to non-proliferation, as prescribed in the European Non-Proliferation Strategy.
