ABSTRACT
The chapter introduces relevant debates concerning the current status of reform in UN-centered multilateralism and the responses we have seen from literature and the UN to address these. We will use two empirical cases to demonstrate how UN-centered multilateralism should or could be reformed, namely the UNSC consideration of the future of multilateralism in two separate discussions in 2023 and 2024 and the Summit for the Future of 2024. We challenge the notion of crisis and try to pinpoint crisis-related discourses and the meaning of narratives in providing solutions. The latter part of the chapter envisions an imaginary future of multilateralism based on our analysis in previous chapters. We propose a parliamentary style of multilateralism at the UN to establish new opportunities and momentum based on existing structures, aiming for better multilateralism to tackle global challenges requiring international cooperation.
