ABSTRACT

This chapter summarises the key findings from the research shared in previous chapters of this book and considers the implications of findings for policy and practice. The findings from this groundbreaking study suggest that young people are engaging in a range of harmful, risky, and criminal behaviours online. Motivations are varied, but excessive use of digital devices coupled with isolation was found to be a clear pathway into cybercrime. Pathways out of cybercrime for at-risk youth and convicted cybercriminals include opportunities for education, mentoring, and viable career pathways where skills can be honed and utilised. Cybercrime moves fast, and new and emerging technologies bring new threats. A broader understanding and definition of cybercrime that encompasses new and emerging technologies should be developed.
