ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the implications of viewing cities and artificial intelligence as sentient entities through the lens of panpsychism, which posits that consciousness is a fundamental property of all matter. Extending this idea to urban environments, the chapter explores how this perspective might shape the design and experience of built spaces. Drawing on the work of C. S. Peirce and David Chalmers, I consider the nature of consciousness as potentially involving multiple selves or internal observers, as discussed in Chapter 10.
