ABSTRACT

Verifiability is a key principle of the LIFTS model. In particular, it requires the integration of multi-capital accounting into an information system, the transparency of this information system, its accessibility to non-experts, the possibility of analysing the method in detail and the existence of a robust audit trail. The information system supporting LIFTS accounting can be built from existing information systems within the company, or developed specifically with a management tool such as Anaplan®.

The aim of this chapter is to describe a LIFTS accounting implementation project based on the company’s existing information systems. The case described in this chapter is specific, but it allows us to review the key issues that arose in setting up an information system to collect, process and automate the data required for the LIFTS accounting calculations, highlighting the choices that were made, and that may arise in other organisations.

This chapter will look at the various stages involved in producing a multi-capital accounting system, from the creation of data to the installation of a system for steering and controlling this accounting system.
