ABSTRACT
This chapter serves as a gateway to understanding the contemporary international student. It suggests that international students are more than just learners in global higher education systems; they are receivers of complex life experiences as transient migrants living in a foreign country. With Australia as its case study, this chapter points out that Western English-speaking countries have become key international education markets that actively recruit international students, which has led to high numbers of foreign students circulating in host countries. Using Australia as its case study, this chapter provides a detailed explanation of the qualitative and quantitative methods used and a summary of the book's chapters.
