ABSTRACT
This chapter emphasizes the importance of understanding theories and practices of social change for effective climate action. The goal is to provide a broader understanding beyond psychology, acknowledging the complex nature of societal transformation. Socio-ecological transformation happens in several parallel transformation processes. The authors present different theories, including the multi-level perspective, the concept of social tipping points, and three strategies for societal transformation. They also introduce the Movement Action Plan, which distinguishes different roles individuals and groups can take in driving social change. Additionally, the chapter provides reflection questions to help individuals and climate action groups assess their strengths, roles, and limitations in the context of socio-ecological transformations.
