ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines a path to a lasting peace in the Middle East through the admission of Palestine as the 194th permanent member of the United Nations and the implementation of the two-state solution. First, we present a very brief history of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict, drawing on the meticulous research of prominent historians Rashid Khalidi and Ilan Pappé. Second, we assess the vision of Prime Minister Netanyahu to “change the map of the Middle East” supported by the Israel Lobby's influence on US foreign policy, with a goal to undermine the establishment of a Palestinian State. Third, we examine the two-state solution within the framework of international law, highlighting the global consensus supporting its realization. Finally, we present an opportunity for implementing the two-state solution under the auspices of the UN's “High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.”
