ABSTRACT

This chapter examines how some men in finance challenge dominant leadership styles by promoting women and embracing values associated with femininity. It bridges critical studies on men and masculinities with critical leadership studies and shows how caring leadership can be emancipatory rather than merely paternalistic. The analysis explores how these men understand good leadership as closely related to insights by feminist ethics of responsibility and care, strategically promote women as coalition partners and incorporate femininity into their own identities through what the author terms “gender as mosaic” or “mosaic masculinity” – pluralised gender compositions within seemingly binary male identities.
