ABSTRACT
Within this chapter, you will learn to fully comprehend and properly implement course alignment with the assistance of generative artificial intelligence (AI). Proper course alignment (structural alignment) is a fundamental cornerstone of good instructional design to ensure students successfully understand instruction and achieve their learning goals. Each part of course alignment, to include the backward design process, will be described and specific instructions and examples will be provided on how to use generative AI to maximize effectiveness and efficiencies in this development. Understanding course alignment and using AI tools properly will help ensure that the student learning outcomes are appropriately developed, the assessments are effectively decided upon, and that the learning activities fully address what needs to be learned to maximally prepare students to succeed in their education and beyond.
