ABSTRACT

The first main aspect for consideration in course alignment is that of student learning outcomes (SLOs), what students are to be able to learn/accomplish by the end of the instruction. This is specifically designated as the first consideration in that the use of backward design is stated as a needed requirement in order to achieve constructive alignment within our course. We first look at what the intended end goal is, what specifically we want students to learn, and then use that to base our teaching/learning activities and assessments. This SLO is nested within higher levels of the educational organization's structure to ensure that students learn all needed components of their degree/specialty. The development of the SLOs will be described within this chapter along with how to use artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool in their creation.
