ABSTRACT
The second key aspect in course alignment (remembering that we are using backward design: (1) student learning outcome, SLO; (2) assessment; and (3) instructional strategies) is the assessment. Understanding the importance and the role of assessment in instructional design and the overall learning process is imperative. Here we are primarily concerned with what will provide good evidence that the intended SLO has been achieved, meaning that the student has actually learned what was intended for them to learn. The creation and selection of different types of assessments while ensuring course alignment will be described within this chapter along with how to use artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool to help accomplish this. Issues associated with academic misconduct will also be addressed along with ways to help mitigate the issue. Additionally, the pros and cons of the utilization of AI for grading will also be explained along with the SHARE Technique to improve assessments and assignments in the age of AI.
