ABSTRACT
Historical video games are playing an increasingly significant role in the global gaming industry. One standout example is the blockbuster Assassin's Creed. This chapter explores how the series recreates various historical eras, cultures, architecture, and countries, and how it is received by the gaming community. We investigate how the game's diverse appropriations result in individual and collective engagement towards history and situated mediations. To achieve this, we conducted a virtual ethnography on players' social networking sites, complemented by semi-structured interviews with 11 players.
