ABSTRACT
This chapter presents and discusses the results of a review of the literature on stakeholder theory and relationship management. Both of these areas were analysed with regard to their general understanding, and with attention to the specific characteristics of the functioning and management of museums. The focus was first on presenting the conceptual framework of the stakeholder theory (subchapter 3.1). The following part analyses and characterises existing stakeholder definitions and categorisation approaches (subchapter 3.2), taking into account the stakeholder salience model. Subchapter 3.3 focuses on the theoretical recognition of defining and categorising stakeholders in the context of museum institutions. The last two subchapters are devoted to the theoretical recognition of the issues of relationships and relationship management: in the area of management, and with a focus on the characteristics of museum management.
