ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces the concept of space-times of adult education to describe the social space of the individual and social connecting of life course and work. It illustrates how the concept was developed during a transnational research project analysing a series of case studies of changing occupational orders, conducted in several countries in the early 2000s. After demonstrating the methodological challenges of cross-cultural comparative research and developing a common working language, we propose the concept of space-times of adult education as a comprehensive approach to conceptualising social and individual transformations at work, from a transnational perspective. Two case studies illustrate its explanatory potential.
