ABSTRACT
I canvass the potential impacts of UBI on reducing resource scarcity and affecting subsequent behaviours. For many of the women interviewed, including those with disabilities (and/or who have dependents with disabilities), UBI would improve access to healthy foods, medical needs, and other essential supports: key factors for maintaining good health. Second, I examine UBI's potential to reduce chronic stress, a major theme in women's stories. Economic stability from UBI could ease stress linked to financial hardship, but women also highlighted how it could also reduce the stigma and isolation of poverty. This includes the stress of having to engage with Australia's demeaning social security system.
