ABSTRACT
Ultimately, irrespective of whether a UBI is ever implemented in Australia, urgent reform is needed to support women's economic security, autonomy, and “real freedoms” now and in the future. As Casey (47 years) provocatively asked at the start of this book, “if women had that bit more of control or autonomy over their own lives, perhaps the world wouldn’t get away with the way that it treats women”. It is my hope that this book might contribute, even in some small way, to ongoing discussions not only about UBI but also the broader policy changes needed to improve outcomes for women across Australia and beyond. Ultimately, a just future is one where a person's economic security, safety, health, and freedom are not determined by the sex they are assigned at birth, nor the gender they choose to move through life with. Although that future remains within our reach, there is still a great deal of work to do.
