ABSTRACT
This introductory tagre sets the stage for a critical exploration of Intercultural Communication Education and Research (ICER). It underscores the need for intercultural self-defence, defined as the proactive protection of one’s intellectual autonomy against the manipulations and deceptions often encountered in ICER. The tagre introduces three adversaries of ICER â€" indoctrination, intellectual inertia and language indifference/nonchalance â€" arguing that they impede genuine understanding and growth. The tagre serves as a rallying cry for students, educators and scholars to engage with interculturality in a more reflexive, critical and nuanced manner, using a variety of creative and intellectual exercises to stimulate thought and action. The working methods and structure of the Resource Book are presented.
