ABSTRACT

The chapter reveals the peculiarities of quantitative research implemented in the AGaStor project. It compares the methodological approach used in AGaStor with the history of research on social acceptance of CCS in Poland. The chapter goes on to analyze the research which is representative of northwestern Poland. These dealt with knowledge about CCUS, perceptions of opportunities and risks with regard to investment in that technology, and social attitudes toward it. The interpretation of these surveys focuses on the broad phenomenon of ignorance and uncertainty about CCUS and UGS. The distribution of these characteristics is particularly unfavorable in terms of potential investment locations in the region. This is because the greatest potential for uncertainty is in small towns and rural areas. Attitudes that reject CCUS technology are analyzed in that context of uncertainty and ignorance. Again, the data suggest that the dominant feature of these attitudes is suspension of speech, uncertainty. The phenomenon of rejection of new technologies itself is relatively small. However, it is difficult to see attitudes to the contrary accepting CCUS.
