ABSTRACT

The chapter refers to analyses of qualitative data gathered in local communities which could be potential locations of CO2 storage. The analysis contains recognition of local problems and needs which could be chances or obstacles for UGS investment. Another aim of the chapter is description of social reception of problems perceived by respondents as crucial for the CCS and UGS investment in the region and local community. The participants of the group's interviews pointed out some technical, political and social problems, but in their opinion most unsolvable are the social problems connected with distrust and perception of CO2 as a waste. Last part of the chapter describes mechanisms of rejection of CCS and UGS. Those mechanisms are a mixture of NIMBY and WIMBY attitudes with addition of a new – very individual and emotional – perspective. This emerging attitude was called Only With My Acceptance (OWMA).
