ABSTRACT
This chapter considers the ways that powerful subjects are interested in education. First, conversation is fostered by education; people who know something about each other’s world find it easier to talk. Second, sometimes such people want to teach, to give back. Third, powerful subjects sometimes want to learn from critical intellectuals what life outside their domains of expertise or authority is like.
