ABSTRACT
Structures of meaning are durable but not eternal. And, as noted, such structures organize organizations, politics more broadly. Fundamentally new regimes must suppress any surviving adherents of the ancien régime, sometimes by guillotining them. Sometimes mere disgrace and exile suffice. Exile, however, can also provide opportunities for exploration, new vistas, hope.
