ABSTRACT
This chapter concludes the book An Interdisciplinary Approach to Discourse on Populism: Tracking the Uses of ‘Populism’ in Media and Political Discourse, which summarises the main outputs of the research project ‘Discourse, populism and democracy. Tracking the uses of populism in media and political discourse’ conducted at UCLouvain (Belgium). The aim of this concluding chapter is to take stock of the findings as well as the avenues for future research proposed in each contribution to capture how democratic conceptions resonate and are articulated with the uses of populis*. To do so, the first part offers a glimpse at the extensive literature seeking to study populism and democracy. On this basis, the second part can open new grounds for investigation in the study of this intricate relationship between the uses of the term populis* and democratic dynamics at three levels, micro, meso and macro, that form the core of contemporary democracies.
