ABSTRACT
This chapter presents the annotation system that is used for the interdisciplinary analysis of the ‘sociopolitical keyword’ populism, combining analytical categories from linguistics, media studies, and political science. First, we discuss the general principles underlying our approach. Then, we describe in detail all the analytical criteria (or variables) taken into account in our annotation process and all the content and categories (or values) we have considered for each of these criteria. Our variables are grouped into three main sets: contextual information, meaning of populism, and function of populism. In doing so, this chapter offers a concrete starting point for other research that aims to analyse sociopolitical keywords from an interdisciplinary perspective.
