ABSTRACT

The People's Republic of China is experiencing a profound demographic shift. With over 300 million citizens aged 60 and above in 2025 (Wang, 2025), the nation is ageing rapidly. Meanwhile, China's rapid digital transformation—marked by the widespread adoption of smart services, mobile internet, algorithmic platforms, and AI technologies—has reshaped everyday life. In traditional Chinese society, the written word was dominant in shaping social interaction; in the modern world, chatbots and robots are the new normal. These two trajectories—ageing and digitalisation—are developing in parallel and are intersecting in ways that demand our attention.
