ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on how Chinese third agers use mobile entertainment apps for relaxation and for maintaining mental well-being, including happiness, interests, and satisfaction. The chapter begins by considering the mediated image of the third age population, both globally and in China. The next section examines several cases of short videos producers and digital game players and shows the ‘new image’ of third agers through mobile entertainment apps, particularly short video and karaoke apps. This chapter also addresses the potential of digital addiction. Finally, the chapter turns to the relationship between the new image of third agers and their mental well-being.
