ABSTRACT
In this visual essay, we present some of the most iconic legal sightseeing photographs. These images are taken from the legal sightseeing archive, a living archive that we began at the start of our project in 2017 and that we have continued since. This living archive has been a means of simultaneous visual data collection and dissemination through the medium of our photoblog (www.legalsightseeing.wordpress.com) and, later, Instagram page (@legalsightseeing). Over the years, we have collected over a thousand photographs of instances and encounters of legal sightseeing. As we presented these photographs on our online platforms, it became possible to share our research as it developed and to invite responses from a wide audience. The photoblog has been the central core of the legal sightseeing project. It crucially underlines the importance of the visual in our method. With this visual essay, we invite you to pause and wonder about what you see in the various instances of legal sightseeing depicted here.
