The first chapter explores the concept of industrial transformation, offering systemized definitions and highlighting core aspects, such as regional industrial transformation and sustainable industrial transformation. It synthesizes the scientific understanding of clusters as institutional structures, defining these terms and detailing their structural characteristics. The chapter also addresses the role of clusters and institutions in local industrial transformation, rooted in institutional and coevolutionary approaches.
