ABSTRACT
This concluding chapter advances counteracting approaches to the three main challenges behind the absence of consolidated protection concerning disaster displacement in the EU, which have been explored in this book. On the one hand, it recommends asylum authorities to familiarize with the contemporary understanding of disasters and to endorse an evolutive approach to the application and interpretation of international and complementary forms of protection in the context of disaster displacement. On the other hand, it provides relevant insights into how protection in the context of disaster displacement may be upheld in the current political context characterized by increasing challenges posed to the refugee regime by State-led barriers to asylum, which are neither effective nor compliant with States’ obligations.
