ABSTRACT
Chapter 4 explores the strategic role of honors colleges within public research universities, emphasizing the importance of data-driven advocacy and stakeholder engagement. It provides a comprehensive framework for honors deans/directors to articulate the value of honors education to university leadership, including presidents, provosts, CFOs, and deans. The chapter highlights the necessity of aligning honors outcomes with institutional priorities, managing data effectively, and tailoring messaging to diverse audiences. It also addresses the challenges of leadership turnover and offers practical strategies for maintaining visibility and support. Additionally, the chapter discusses how honors colleges/programs can contribute to state-level economic development and legislative engagement, dispelling myths of elitism and showcasing honors as a public good.
