ABSTRACT

Early in 2020, I was slightly taken aback and somewhat surprised when I was informed that I had been nominated to become the next vice-chancellor of the Pan-Atlantic University, Nigeria after being dean of Lagos Business School for 11 years. It appeared the surprise was almost entirely mine as many internal stakeholders already expected this. Reflecting on my failure to see the appointment coming raised questions in me as to whether women fail to see the capabilities in themselves or are slightly abashed by their own competence and capabilities and prefer to remain ‘invisible’.
