ABSTRACT
This chapter clarifies the aims and scope of the book, together with some Greetings from the Ocean by an imaginary sea cucumber, whose voice has been generated with the help of a chatbot. The chapter situates the book in relevant scholarship, especially environmental, multispecies and ocean anthropology, while guiding the reader through the theoretical framework that informs the analysis. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) for storytelling from a sea cucumber perspective is explained in relation to imagination and creative anthropology. The exploration of multimodal, multisensory and multispecies methods during fieldwork is reflected upon, including collaborative filmmaking and the use of a GoPro camera for underwater filming. The introductory chapter is concluded with an outline of chapters and narrative structure.
