ABSTRACT
The m*** word: The silent puppeteer serves as an introduction to the book and introduces money as a central yet often-overlooked factor in Intercultural Communication Education and Research (ICER). Through an introductory dialogue among scholars, this chapter brings to our attention some of the complexities and taboos surrounding money in the field. The author argues that money, often invisible in discussions of interculturality, is a compelling force shaping our behaviours, perceptions and relationships. Drawing on interdisciplinary perspectives, this chapter critiques the silence around money and its implications for interculturality. It sets the stage for a critical and reflexive examination of how money influences intercultural encounters, challenging readers to confront the economic realities that underpin our global communications. The end of this chapter presents the chapters that compose Money and Interculturality: A Theory.
