ABSTRACT
The evolution and adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) have seen changes in the training and adult education landscape (TAE) in Singapore. Educators and learners, along with other professionals, have shown unprecedented levels of interest in the potential of AI to enhance the learning experience. This chapter will explore how Adult Educators (AE) in Singapore perceive and utilise AI in their work. This study draws on data collected through online surveys targeting educators in the sectors of higher education, training, and adult learning to gain a comprehensive understanding of their evolving perspectives on AI. Conducted in two different points—October to November 2023 (n = 624) and June to October 2024 (n = 254) – the surveys aim to investigate key areas related to the integration of AI in education. Specifically, it explores how educators perceive the application of AI in their professional contexts, their confidence in utilising AI tools, and their expectations regarding AI's impact on their roles and learners. Additionally, it examines the extent of their participation in professional development initiatives designed to enhance their understanding and application of AI in education and training. Through this analysis, the study seeks to provide valuable insights into the adoption and implications of AI within the Singapore landscape. We foresee possible changes in the results between the years, and the findings from the analysis will provide better insights into broader implications for the continuing professional development of AEs and ethical concerns with the usage of AI in higher education, training, and adult learning.
