ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the structure of the book and the scholars involved in the international project “Discourses and Development Dilemmas of Central American Local Communities.” It provides an overview of the book's organization and outlines the content of each chapter. Both the project and this publication aim to bring local voices and perspectives on development into international debates. The book presents the results of the fieldwork conducted in areas affected by the implementation of megaprojects that particularly provoke debates about development. It also identifies differences and obstacles that make it difficult to reach consensus on the desired directions of development. This work is grounded in a decolonial theoretical framework that challenges dominant Western narratives. It draws on the paradigms of the epistemologies of the South and embraces an interdisciplinary, constructivist and qualitative approach.
