ABSTRACT

Human capital holds the key to sustainable economic progress. The greatest risk to India’s quest in becoming a developed nation lies in converting demography into a dividend through priority to human capital that raises productivity and incomes and enables lives of dignity to all. The World Bank defines human capital as ‘the knowledge, skills and health that people invest in and accumulate throughout their lives, enabling them to realise their potential as productive members of society’. Health, nutrition, and survival are all intricately linked to human capital.
