ABSTRACT

Food Policy Councils (FPCs) need funding in order to maintain staff, hold events, run programs, and mount advocacy campaigns; most exist on a shoestring budget. Without adequate funding, and the staffing that enables, FPCs can fail to meet their full potential. This chapter shares statistics about the current state of FPC funding levels. The next section describes three building blocks for fundraising: the Theory of Change, Value Proposition, and Logic Model (each supported by a document in the Resources section at the end of the chapter). The next section provides insights into three key processes: finding funders who align with the FPCs’ vision and mission, identifying potential project partners for grant proposals, and completing all elements of grant proposals. The Resources section contains worksheets and templates covering all core chapter elements.
