ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces the Safe Access Empowerment model, designed for people in conditions of extreme fragility or marginalization, such as children with chronic illnesses, older adults in poverty, or those affected by severe addictions, who cannot access essential goods and services through the market. In these cases, empowerment is not achieved by directly mobilizing economic capabilities, but by enabling access through protected spaces. The chapter explains how these protected environments – physical or digital – must remain exclusive and safe, allowing the most vulnerable to receive dedicated care. The enabling mechanism relies on Differentiated Social Business Hybrids, where social and business activities are functionally distinct yet economically interdependent. Beneficiaries receive services free of charge, while third-party customers support the model through responsible consumption. This structure ensures sustainability and reinforces the organization's social mission. The model is illustrated through the case of the Dynamo Foundation. This venture philanthropy initiative combines non-profit and entrepreneurial projects to provide long-term support for vulnerable children and their families.
