ABSTRACT

The history of the universities in which we work can be understood as a set of authority placements gradually and over time being replaced by a different set of authority placements. Authorisations then have to be expressed in normative terms, and the notion of institutionalising, as in different formations of knowledge, only makes sense in relation to the different authority and authorising structures – vocabularies, types of representings, the correctness or otherwise of these representings, relational objects and more – that the institution can now be said to confer.
