ABSTRACT

In 1974, Tzu Chi expanded its mission across Taiwan, with significant developments in Taichung and beyond. This chapter begins with the pioneering efforts in Taichung, where Masters Da Hong and Da Yan, along with their disciples, initiated home visits and organized aid distributions. The formation of the “Fundraising and Home Visit Team of Four” laid a solid foundation for Tzu Chi's work in central Taiwan. The chapter also highlights the involvement of university students from the Mingdao Society at Hualien Teachers College, marking the first time organized university students participated in Tzu Chi's charity work. Additionally, the chapter details Tzu Chi's first disaster relief operation in northern Taiwan, where commissioners, led by Master Hui Miao, responded to Typhoon Wendy's devastation in Keelung and Yilan.
