ABSTRACT
In 1971, Tzu Chi constructed the “Jiali Cottages” for families affected by Typhoon Nadine. This chapter details how Master Cheng Yen allocated funds to purchase land in Jiali Village, Xincheng Township, to build three concrete houses for the families of Wu A-Tung, Wang Chuang-Mei, and Chen A-Piao, whose homes were destroyed by the typhoon. Despite limited resources, Tzu Chi volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure these families had a safe and stable environment to rebuild their lives. The chapter also highlights the growth of Tzu Chi's membership, which reached over 300, and the dedication of its founding commissioners, who undertook fundraising and case visits to provide targeted assistance.
