ABSTRACT
This chapter argues that the next stage of digital modernity requires a fundamental change in our attitude towards machine intelligence and its relationship to the history of technology and human evolution. Drawing on the perspectives of Karl Popper and Katherine Hayles, the chapter reconfigures artificial intelligence as industrialized cognition and situates this within the broader contexts of digital modernity and political economy.
