ABSTRACT

The starting point for this study of Ōhara Junnosuke was the unexpected discovery of a large number of handwritten documents, including lecture notes and internship reports (some in English) written between 1877 and 1884, and diaries and travelogues (all in Japanese) written in various years between 1886 and 1896. These provide an invaluable insight into the life, education, and working career of a mining engineer in the early Meiji period.
