ABSTRACT

The hustle and bustle of everyday life leaves little time for reflection – even in universities, where one would expect reflection to be one of the main activities. There is also little space to reflect on the future, and even when we do, we tend to think in terms of the situation today and much less in terms of that of tomorrow. Nevertheless, the changes that are occurring in the world are more radical and more rapid than ever before. This compels us to reflect on the changed circumstances in which the university of the future will have to operate, even if these statements have uncomfortable implications. For these predictions are surrounded by great uncertainty. The opposite is also true, however: we can be certain that the university that does not dare to make predictions will not survive.
