ABSTRACT
This chapter by researcher and artist-filmmaker Onyeka Igwe traces her journey through archives and memories entangled in the linked histories of Britain and Nigeria. Moving between the Nigerian National Film, Video and Sound Archive in Jos, the Kenneth Dike Library at the University of Ibadan, the British Empire and Commonwealth Collection archive in Bristol, and other sites, the narrative intertwines personal and historical timelines, encounters with colonial archives, and engagements with the everyday lives captured in colonial-era films. Through speculative and embodied approaches to (post)colonial archives, the author seeks to salvage potential histories and subjected knowledges. Across these scenes, an ethical wager emerges: Should we leave the colonial archive behind?
