ABSTRACT

The Satat Jeevikoparjan Yojana (SJY), initiated in 2018 by the State Government of Bihar, focuses on uplifting the poorest of the poor. With support from JEEViKA as its implementing agency, SJY has empowered marginalised groups by involving women in Self Help Groups (SHGs) as key agents of change. The chapter discusses various innovative approaches undertaken by SJY and strategies for scaling up. While the key interventions along with outcome indicators and core factors for scalable impact have been analysed in this study, the outcomes reflect that the programme has proven to be effective in addressing multidimensional poverty. Further, the programme has been successful in strengthening community resilience and has fostered social inclusion. The chapter also delves deeper into the sustainability of the programme and explores key strategies like effective community engagement, policy and programme integration, and sustainability through empowerment that serve as major takeaways and offer valuable learning opportunities. These strategies could be instrumental in informing future poverty alleviation efforts and the empowerment of the ultra-poor communities.
