ABSTRACT
What matters and how can we realise it – become more aware and put things into practice? This volume contributes to the fundamental discourse on value and values, not only within the arts and culture, but also within the wider context of economy and society. It documents theoretical and methodological advances in an accessible manner, crossing traded boundaries between economics, sociology, cultural studies, and urban studies. The contributing authors also introduce innovative ways to promote the realisation of values in co-operation with (other) stakeholders. Interdisciplinarity and flexible methods already make for challenging and novel contributions. Perhaps the greatest appeal of the “value-based approach” (VBA) and this volume is its constructive, practical relevance, however: it encourages and empowers readers to promote deliberate co-operation between all kinds of stakeholders to generate shared goods and sustain shared practices, which go well beyond markets or government.
